Webdesign after diet!

Hi my design folks, followers, haters :) First as you can see on the dribbble lot of kickass designers started to more nd more focus on that clean "metro style" (name is after code name of windows mobile 7 UI).

Web after diet = metro style

I know you hate to read those long articles i will take it shortly for you! Metro style web, there is really huge big gigantic attetion to the content the main goal of this style is "user will not get lost and he will find exactly what he looking for". What that means? Anything should not disturb him! So you know the goal, but how to achieve it?!

  • Hole layout concept - Give the main focus on the content!
  • Layer/ color overlay - pay attetion on the sexy color theme (use adobe kuler)
  • Right font - the main is the content (text, pictures, movie), so you have to use the really lovely font. Defaul MS metro font is Segoe family font.
  • Interaction/animation - hole metro concept is workin with high number of the interactions try to implement some of them even on the web - but remember implement only those that user will have real benefit!
  • Make it responsive!

Bla bla show us example

Here is really small comparation between non metro style (i call it hardcore style) and the metro style button. Hopefully you will find out the difference. I dont say its only about the layer style but its the first factor you will notice.

How to get on dribbble (dribbble tips)

Dribbble_logo

Hi folks! I`m not on dribbble for the long time, but i have some experiences and i would like to share some of my tips with you! Are you new on dribbble? You didnť posted you first shot yet? If you are still looking for the invitation try to look it over the twittter (hastag) and even try the dribbble invite tag on instagram lot of ppl posting them there or just og the dribbble and find them!

0) How i get on dribbble? - If you are still looking for the invitation try to look it over the twittter (hastag) and even try the dribbble invite tag on instagram lot of ppl posting them there or just go the dribbble and find them! (i did it like this)

1) Focus on the first shot - do not waste it on the "thanks and welcome shot" (i did it). Rember you are able to do very big first impresion with that shot so do not waste it! Show some part of your actual work. Or just go to the popular page and look what is hot these days and make   something in that style.

2) Post at right time - You should focus to post on in the right time (since you will get more followers). It doesnt matter what time you have (at your place) but you should post at nice time for New York nd the San Francisco (6pm works for me). But you have to find it on your own :)

3) Share you post - try to share your post on social networks to get better feedback nd reach.

4) Weekends - Everybody say "do not post at the weekend" for me it works only for Fridays you can easily get lot of feedback even at sunday, saturday. So do not be afraiad to post.

5) Follow design rockstars, Try rebounds, Follow me and share love nd peace :)

My white rabbit (table)

Last week i saw the article on the smashingmagazine and i was really exctited when i saw

all those "tables" of those designs superheroes, so i decided to show you my own magic table, because i don`t have only iMac there (i know you was wondering about that). If think there is not such a better option how to show you what i have on the table than picture :)

Photo_7

So as you can see its not that typical oldschool table, organized table. I have my own system here. Domination is iMac (late 2011, 21.5") and yes i`m not using magic mouse why because it sucks! I like to have mouse with more than 1200 dpi :) Then there is some sort of plant (i saw that other designers have them so i have it too :D). Huge amount of sketch paper, pens, books (iconhandbook & book about prints). Then there are those "toys" iPhone 2,4 (for testing), iPad (2). Watches - gshocks. And this is basiclly it oh i forget about my passion for the green tea haha.

Hope you like this small tour aroundmy table.

Is dribbble really only about effects?

If you are here on my new blog you should hear about mighty dribbble. If you dont know about dribbble - basiclly this article doesn`t make any sense for you and just check out this funny video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M660rjNCH0A :D

Effects vs designs

When i finally get on dribbble (it was about5 months ago) i was happy like a small child in the toy shop. Because there is just not bettter place for the designers on the net :) To be honest dribbble really really help me to get - feedback, jobs and even friends. Only thanks to the dribbble i`m now the lead UI/UX designer at Pinerly.com - startup from Silicon Valley, but its another story.

So dribbble is def great (best) place its part of my daily routine i just love it. But there is also "dark" side of the dribbble, bcs if you will be there little be longer you will note that fact the most popular things are things like the - clock widgets, weather things, buttons, blurry bckg and the things with lot of effects. I`m not saying its wrong i also made some of those funky things :)

But just imagine you are workin on the great designs (for example complete social network) - very clean UX, lovely UI. But if you show in those 400x300 px just part of it you will not get enough likes even if its really kickass design. Why? because there is now glow, lights, shiny things - the design is workin like the one piece, but ppl will not see that bcs there are not going to even click on preview. True story.

My personal tips

  • Use really nice preview, try to find really outstanding element! Like the button, dropdown menu etc.
  • Use picture instead of real pixels (dont like this sulution but its workin)
  • Have the "milion" of followers it works all the time - but its not easy you have to be design superhero to have them.
